The 46 000 m2 plant will accommodate the production of a range of different vehicle types, including diesel and electric multiple-units, trams and high speed trainsets. This photograph was taken by the Crane lift company McGovern Contract Lifting and Crane Hire who we worked alongside during the project, as well as our clients Derry Building Services Ltd.

Project overview

Our in house design team conducted both CFD and Thermal Modelling as part of the design process for this project. The purpose of the CFD analysis was to test for carbon monoxide emissions; the trains are to be tested in the factory so
it was crucial to ensure that the carbon monoxide emitted was cleared from the environment quickly. An external company provided carbon monoxide sensors that worked in harmony with our Intelivent units. The thermal model provided demonstrated any heat gains in the building, which did not exceed the CIBSE TM52 guidelines. Our Intelivent Natural Ventilation Range was selected as the most suitable choice for this type of environment providing the necessary ventilation rates whilst being energy efficient and cost effective. We provided standard Penthouse Turrets, MEK-Boost Penthouse Turrets as well as Intelivent Wall Units. The MEK-Boost allows increased ventilation at times of high occupancy as it includes a low energy fan to enhance ventilation performance In spaces where occupancy and heat gains vary.
