GDL Project

Law School

Hertfordshire University

Project details

GDL completed works at this award winning educational facility in Hatfield, Hertfordshire. The Law court complex at the University was designed by RMJM Architects and was completed in August 2011. The Law School features state of the art construction technologies and has won the accolade for the ‘Most Sustainable Construction Category’ at the Hertfordshire Building Futures Awards 2011. Supporting the University initiative to reduce its carbon footprint was an essential part of the design process for this building.

Project overview

GDL supplied the Low Leakage Motorised Volume Control Dampers on this award winning project alongside M&E Contractors, Salix Mechanical Services.

The development encompasses photovoltaic roof panels and specialist ventilation and cooling system that significantly reduces energy consumption throughout the building by 30%.

Our VCD’s reduce the leakage of cold air into the building via the thermally insulated blades lowering energy consumption that could have been used to heat the area.

Benefits of using GDL Products on the project

  • The low leakage dampers specifiedon this project give a low air leakage rate of below 5m3/hr/m2 and an insulation value of 1.8 watts/m2/°c.

  • The blades of the VCD’S are thermally insulated stopping cold air from penetrating the building contributing to the energy efficiency initiative throughout this project.
